Focus On Color

“Designers take a painterly approach to fall 2011 by artfully combining bright colors with staple neutrals, reminiscent of how an artist would construct a stunning work of art,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute^®. “Much like a painter's masterpiece, there is a certain romance to this season's palette.”

"Bamboo, a surprising fall hue, brings a warm, exotic flavor to the season. Like a filtered sunset on the waning days of fall, Bamboo is a standout yellow with a subtle green undertone. This dappled shade pairs dramatically with several of the top 10, including Phlox, Teal and Honeysuckle.

Radiant Emberglow, a traditional autumnal tone, emanates the warmth of a glowing fire – the perfect panacea to the crisp air of fall. Evoking the freshness of a cool mist in a dark forest, Cedar is a versatile, mid-tone neutral green. It is a natural with Deep Teal, and sophisticated and timeless with Phlox or Orchid Hush. While working with a fantastic event planning company in Shem Creek we starting talking about Pinterest. It will become your new creative Summer obsession no matter if you are into DIY, fashion, weddings, decor, art or anything you can type into the search engine. Not kidding it is so much fun!! Earlier in the week the Nordstrom catalog arrived! Ahh remembering the days of going to the Half-Yearly sale with all the other early birds at 6 AM with a mocha in hand a my best friend on my arm. And we had a plan! Go up all the way to the top grab the things we were going to try on and head over to the "lady's intimates area". Where they had massive changing rooms and no one was there at that time of morning. The girls were always very happy to have some people in there and checking out was a snap...no lines! But that was many moons ago and now I live where the thought of wearing a sweater in September is just too much for temps in the 90's. But a girl can dream of the good times! The storque has landed!

Hi there! I have to say first and foremost that the Summer is just flying by! School starts next week here in Charleston and it has been a whirl wind of family and friends since June!! Love it and would not change anything :-) On the other hand things that are a part of my day to day (like blogging) that time has gone it spending time on the beach at the pool and baking. In this heat index of 121 degrees I know!!

So today there was huge news that just couldn't wait until after 8. Etsy's Storque featured one of my butterfly sprigs today and my shop just went CRAZY!! Wow. After two years with my creations I had an item that caught the eye of someone inside Etsy!! It is so wild and fun right now that I will post a screen print of that listing...1005 views. Unbelievable!!!

In the studio I have been working on new ideas but I tell you the butterflies are so relaxing to design and create that I find I am in a zone and just love it.

Type in your shop name and it is all there for you. Another great resource is http://www.craftcult.com/. Go there to see hearts for items and your store and today I found something called The Vault! Incredible!! Type in your shop name and it will show you if you made the front page and who created it! (There is even an area where you can make a widget for your blog.) Magazine, Movie and More

Last night we watched The Hangover which was funny if taken in the right light! Seeing how things are picking up in my shop I decided to multi task with making more butterflies, reading the latest magazine and listen to the movie. My husband thought the movie was over the top and funny but really such a shame to destroy an old classic Mercedes Rag top because they can will all the budgeting they have for these movies. This type of car is art and it is painful to watch it be rammed by an huge SUV. As the saying goes the show must go on! ~Kristine

Magnolia Plantation Inspiration

Valentine's Day will be here before we know it! And I have to say that Spring is not too far behind! While we were at Magnolia Plantation there were all these gorgeous Camilla's just starting to bloom. Above are my artistic interpretation of seeing all this color in the middle of Winter. The idea for the paper flower wraps was to put them onto gifts, vases, journals, books, magazines, hats or anything that needs a little sassiness! Have a great week!! ~Kristine

Côte d'Azur Butterflies

Today I finished up the Côte d'Azur collection and wanted to share what I found online regarding the area. These butterflies were inspired by the region and I think the history of the area is incredible! Oh and had a chance to watch the next part of Emma between the Grammy's. ~Kristine

"The Côte d'Azur, often known in English as the French Riviera, is the Mediterranean coastline of the south eastern corner of France, extending from Menton near the Italian border in the east to either Hyères or Cassis in the west."

"This coastline was one of the first modern resort areas. It began as a winter health resort for the British upper class at the end of the 18th century. With the arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century, it became the playground and vacation spot of British, Russian, and other aristocrats, such as Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, when he was Prince of Wales. In the summer, it also played home to many members of the Rothschild family. In the first half of the 20th century it was frequented by artists and writers, including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Edith Wharton, Somerset Maugham and Aldous Huxley, as well as wealthy Americans and Europeans. Butterflies in Sweden

After all the hundreds (maybe a thousand by now?) of butterflies that I have handmade over the last two years something wonderful has happened. Madeleine in Sweden posted a few pictures of what she did with her set! Amazing and so beautiful!! I am grateful that she indulged me and has allowed me to use her photos as examples of two gorgeous way to display them. Other people have used them on cards, mobiles, presents and even on the walls!

So thank you Madeleine for sharing and making my day!! She has the most delightful website that makes you feel like you are there with her in Sweden having a yummy homemade treat right out of the oven with her daughter "E".
